UCS 4 Olympique Energetik 2

UCS finally emerged victorious in this thriller at Mountblow on Thursday night.

Bankies reverted to a familiar system and set about their opponents from the start. Both teams settled really quickly and it was end to end stuff.

Olympique took the lead when a striker had an unstoppable shot from 25 yards which flew into the top corner.

Bankies responded and had an effort cleared off the line. They finally levelled when McInally got on the end of a Mooney corner to prod the ball over the line.

Bankies attacked more and Paul Mooney had a great game wide on the left. The back 4 contained the impressive Olympique attack allowing the midfield to support the forward line.

Against the run of play the visitors took the lead. Harkin was caught out with a long ball and Steven raced from his line only to be beaten to the ball. The striker caught the ball in the 6 yard box and shot only for a teammate on the line to knock it in from what was a certain offside position in everyone's eyes except the referees.

Olympique then had a good long range effort come off the bar.

Half time came and after a positive team talk Bankies set about taking the game by the scruff.

Within two minutes of the restart it was all square, Gregg Gillan fired through a ruck of bodies from 14 yards out.

Bankies then added 2 goals in 10 minutes. First McInally struck a sweet effort from at least 25 yards which the keeper had no chance with.

McInally and Gillan then combined to put Edmonds through and he calmly slotted by the keeper to give The Bankies a bit of breathing space.

Steven had one good save at the other end whilst Bankies had a few near things. McNeil's 25 yarder came off the upright and Mooney was close on a few occasions.

O'Brien replaced McNeil, McGarvey for Graeme Urquhart and Paul Cummings for Mcinally as Bankies saw the game out. Harkin almost scored in the final minute, but as often he does, he put the ball wide.

Bankeis now face Baillieston at Faifley on saturday morning, 10am.
